Help us Give Work to Kenyan Refugees

How iPhone users can help

Download our application and work on our customer's tasks. The work that you do will be matched with the work that our refugee workforce does, ensuring high quality results for our customers.

The points in Give Work have real world value for the refugees they help. As you increase the wage of a working refugee they have more purchasing power in their camp. What do things cost in a refugee camp? Based on surveys of real workers we found the following point values:

  • 5 points = 1 tomato, 1 large banana, a small bunch of greens
  • 10 points = 1 SMS (text message); 2 oranges
  • 50 points = 10 sweet potatoes, small bag of sugar
  • 100 points = 1/2 a fish, portion of locally-made bread
  • 500 points = 1 large sack of charcoal for cooking
  • 1,000 points = 5 minutes of cell phone airtime

In just a few minutes you can help make someone's day.

Who we are

As you may know, Crowdflower provides efficient and accurate crowdsourcing for short, simple tasks. In collaboration with our customers, we fill the Give Work app with easy, human oriented jobs. The work is then distributed between iPhone users and workers in Dadaab, Kenya, the largest refugee camp in the world.

Samasource, a San Francisco based nonprofit leverages the technology to empower marginalized people living below the poverty line. They work to train refugees in Kenya who will check the task for further accuracy.

100% of the money made goes the the refugees and the refugee camp.

It's as easy as 1 + 1

You do a task, a refugee does a task and you both get paid. Of course, your micropayment goes as a donation to the worker in Dadaab.

Thank you for giving work. It would not be possible without you.
